He will play Kang Woo Joo, an air traffic controller in Jeju who reunites with a former trainee pilot seven years later. The female lead hasn’t officially been cast yet, but Park Ji Hyun (Rookie Historian, Do You Like Brahms?) is said to be in talks to play Ahn Ha Nee. 🎬 A New Time Travel K-drama in the making
Time travel is a popular theme in K-dramas, and now here’s another one in the making!
Kim Yun Seok and Kim Seon Ho are confirmed to star in tvN’s upcoming time travel drama May the Congressman Protect You. Based on a popular web novel, the story follows a veteran assemblyman who returns to the past as a ghost and teams up with a politically clueless civil servant to rewrite their destinies. With Director Park Shin Woo, winner of Best Director at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, teaming up with The Price of Confession writer Kwon Jong Kwan, this one is already on the path to streaming success.

Byeon Woo-seok to release final OST for ‘Perfect Crown
For all the Perfect Crown viewers out there… 👑 Kakao Entertainment reported that Byeon Woo Seok is lending his voice to the drama’s OST (Original Soundtrack) with the new ballad Fate Line, releasing May 15 (KST). The emotional track was kept as a surprise addition to the OST lineup and explores the love story of two people living very different lives. Fans can also look forward to a special online album release on May 16 featuring 12 songs and 44 score tracks, while the physical OST album packed with photocards, posters, and bookmarks arrives June 5.

📈 What’s Trending (or not)
SBS’s Sold Out on You is showing an interesting split between domestic TV ratings and global streaming performance. While the drama’s Korean viewership has stayed modest, with episode 7 dipping to 2.5 percent nationwide, it topped Netflix’s non-English TV chart in its first week with 4.7 million views and reached the Top 10 in 42 countries.
Meanwhile, SBS’s My Royal Nemesis is showing the kind of dual momentum networks love to see: rising domestic ratings and strong global streaming performance. The drama premiered at 4.1 percent in South Korea and climbed to 5.4 percent by episode 2, while also becoming the first SBS drama to top Netflix’s global non-English TV chart.
Together, they show how K-drama success is increasingly measured across two tracks: local broadcast growth and international streaming reach.

🎬 Ji Chang Wook Updates
Ok Wook Nation fans, last week we shared that Ji Chang Wook is officially stepping into a darker, more politically charged role in Netflix’s upcoming thriller The Generals (working title).
This week, we have another exciting update: his upcoming film Colony has unveiled a new poster. Directed by Yeon Sang Ho of Train to Busan and Peninsula, Colony follows survivors trapped inside a quarantined building after an unknown virus causes the infected to evolve in unpredictable ways. The new poster shows Ji Chang Wook alongside Jun Ji Hyun, Shin Hyun Been, Kim Shin Rok, Go Soo, and Koo Kyo Hwan, framed by a strange weblike membrane that hints at both the horror and mystery at the center of the story.

🧠K-drama Word of the Week
사랑 (Sa-rang)
One Korean word you’ll hear constantly in K-dramas is:
사랑 (sa-rang) - Meaning: “love.”
You’ll hear it in:
💕 emotional confessions
💕 heartbreaking goodbyes
💕 sweet romantic moments
💕 and dramatic declarations in the rain 😄
Example:
사랑해 (sa-rang-hae) “I love you.”
Whether it’s whispered softly or shouted during an emotional finale, “sa-rang” is one of the most recognizable words in K-dramas… and one every fan learns quickly. 🎭

🍎 K-Culture Moment of the Week
May 15 is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in South Korea, a day dedicated to recognizing educators and expressing gratitude for their guidance, encouragement, and lasting impact. In Korea, students often give flowers, handwritten notes, or small gifts to teachers as a sign of appreciation and respect.
K-dramas frequently highlight the important role teachers, mentors, and senior figures play in shaping a person’s future. Sometimes the biggest lessons in life come not from dramatic moments, but from the quiet encouragement of someone who believed in us when we needed it most.
K-dramas like Navillera and The Sound of Magic beautifully remind us that some of life’s greatest lessons come through encouragement, healing, and believing in someone when they have stopped believing in themselves. 💛
🎬 K-Everything. The Global Rise of Korean Culture
CNN’s new four-part original series K-Everything premiered globally on May 9, with Daniel Dae Kim guiding viewers through the rise of Korean culture as a global entertainment force. The series highlights CJ ENM’s role in shaping K-pop, K-film, and K-drama through platforms like KCON, the MAMA Awards, Superstar K, and landmark films including Oldboy and Parasite.
It is another reminder that Hallyu did not happen overnight. It was built through decades of creativity, investment, and a vision to connect people around the world through Korean storytelling.
And speaking of Hallyu’s global rise, we recently explored another important part of that story: the women who helped turn K-dramas into a worldwide cultural force. Read more in Why Women Are the Heart of Hallyu.
K-Everything is currently available to stream on Max (formerly HBO Max), Hulu, and Apple TV.
