Welcome back, K-drama Insiders! 💫

It’s time to catch up on all things K-drama.

I binged all 16 episodes of Captivating the King in record time, and it has officially become one of my favorite sageuks. It had a little bit of everything: romance, palace politics, mystery, suspense—and did I mention the slow-burn romance?

I decided to stay on the sageuk train and started Mr. Queen. This is actually my second attempt, and while the first two episodes still felt a little slow, I made it to Episode 3 and things are finally getting interesting. I think I’m going to stick with it and let you know next week whether it lives up to the hype. I have to admit, after Captivating the King, my sageuk standards are pretty high.

Meanwhile, I’m eagerly awaiting the next two episodes of Agent Kim Reactivated! Last week, the action and suspense really heated up, but the drama still managed to balance its darker moments with plenty of comic relief.

🧠 K-drama Word of the Week

아이고 (Aigo / Aigoo)

An exclamation similar to "Oh my goodness," "Oh boy," or a weary sigh. Characters often say 아이고 when they are frustrated, stressed, surprised, disappointed—or simply tired.

You may also hear it pronounced or written as 아이구 (aigu).

Someone spills the kimchi? 아이고. A grandson forgets to call? 아이고. The villain shows up again? 아이고!

If a grandmother clutches her chest, shakes her head, and lets out a dramatic "아이고...", you know somebody's in trouble.

Fair warning: once you learn 아이고, you'll start noticing it in almost every K-drama—and you may even catch yourself saying it after a long day.

👘 The Art Behind the Hanbok

Ever wondered who designs the breathtaking hanbok seen in your favorite historical K-dramas?

The Korea Times recently profiled acclaimed costume designer Lee Jin-hee, whose work has appeared in dramas including Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Love in the Moonlight, and My Dearest. In the interview, she shares how traditional Korean aesthetics, symbolism, and even AI are helping bring hanbok to audiences around the world.

If you've ever admired the stunning costumes in a sageuk, this is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the artistry that brings Korean history to life.
