Welcome back, K-drama Insiders! 💫
It’s time to catch up on all things K-drama.
This week’s issue is arriving a little later than usual, so think of it as your Saturday evening K-drama catch-up: a cozy mix of what I watched, what’s making noise in K-entertainment, and a few cultural notes to take into the weekend.
First up: what I’m watching!
Last week, My Royal Nemesis dropped its final two episodes, and well… it didn’t disappoint! I wouldn’t say the ending was completely unpredictable, but I was happy it turned out the way I wanted it to.
I also finished True Beauty, and honestly, I think I liked it a bit better than My Royal Nemesis — probably because it felt more like a fairy tale, with a great bromance and just enough second lead syndrome to keep me guessing for a while. The overall message was also really uplifting, which I loved.
Tonight, I’m going to start my next K-drama, and after a run of rom-coms and melodramas, I’m feeling ready for something with a little more action. I can’t quite decide between Agent Kim Reactivated for some action-comedy energy, or switching gears completely with the historical romance Captivating the King.

📈 Ratings Watch: My Royal Nemesis Wraps Strong as Teach You a Lesson Takes Over Netflix
With the finale of My Royal Nemesis now behind us, Netflix’s drama attention appears to be shifting toward Teach You a Lesson, which has taken the No. 1 spot among dramas on Netflix.
For broadcast and cable dramas, the latest available ratings are always a little behind, but for the week of June 15–21, My Royal Nemesis closed out with strong numbers on SBS, reaching 10.7% for episode 13 and 11.8% for episode 14.
Meanwhile, KBS’s Recipe for Love continued to dominate the weekend ratings with 15.1% and 15.9%, while JTBC’s Reborn Rookie climbed from 8.8% to 11.0%. tvN’s The Legend of Kitchen Soldier also held steady early in the week, rising from 7.1% to 7.6%.
So while Teach You a Lesson is leading the Netflix conversation, the broadcast side still has plenty of momentum — especially among weekend dramas.

🧠 K-drama Word of the Week
어떡해 (Otteoke) means “What do I do?” or “Oh no!”
You’ll often hear this panicked little phrase right before a character makes a terrible decision, realizes something has gone very wrong, or finds themselves in the middle of a full K-drama crisis.
It can be used seriously, but it is also one of those wonderfully dramatic phrases that shows up in everything from rom-com misunderstandings to emotional cliffhangers.
So the next time a character freezes, panics, and whispers “어떡해…” — you know things are probably about to get messy.

🎨 Summer Festivals in Korea
If you are visiting Korea this summer — or just daydreaming from home — festival season is in full swing. Here are a few summer events on the radar:
Daegu Chimac Festival | July 1–5
Daegu’s signature chicken-and-beer festival returns to Duryu Park with food, music, photo zones, and plenty of summer festival energy. Admission is free, with some premium reservation options available.
Gangneung Beach Beer Festival | July 3–5
Over on Gyeongpo Beach, Gangneung pairs craft beer, local food, beach games, stage performances, and a more relaxed pine-forest lounge area for visitors who want a seaside summer vibe.
Everland Water Festival | Through August 30
Everland is leaning fully into summer with water play zones, splash shows, nighttime attractions, cooling menus, and its Splash Day & Night concept — perfect for anyone traveling with kids or looking for a full theme park day.
Muan Lotus Festival | Through Sunday
For a quieter cultural escape, the Muan Lotus Festival takes place at Hoesan White Lotus Pond, one of Asia’s largest lotus habitats, with lotus tea, evening walks, concerts, and family-friendly activities.
Worasan Hydrangea Festival | Through Sunday
In Jinju, the Worasan Hydrangea Festival offers flower gardens, forest walks, hands-on programs, evening lights, and a cooler wooded setting for visitors hoping to enjoy Korea’s summer blooms.

🌀Time, Dimensions & Reality-Bending Dramas
Looking for something a little more epic this weekend? This week’s watchlist leans into parallel worlds, time travel, sci-fi mystery, and characters trying very hard to save people they love — or maybe the entire world.
👑 The King: Eternal Monarch
👉 Craving: Epic romance across time and dimensions
A modern Korean emperor crosses into a parallel world and meets a determined detective who may be connected to him across time, fate, and multiple realities. It is sweeping, romantic, stylish, and very much a “just go with it and enjoy the ride” kind of drama.
🎮 Memories of the Alhambra
👉 Craving: Action, sci-fi, and mystery
Set partly in Spain, this drama mixes augmented reality gaming, suspense, corporate intrigue, and a mystery that becomes increasingly dangerous. If you like dramas where technology blurs the line between game and reality, this one is worth adding to your list.
⏳ Sisyphus: The Myth
👉 Craving: Time travel, action, and saving the world
This one throws you straight into time travel, conspiracies, action sequences, and the question of whether the future can actually be changed. Does every detail fully explain itself? Not exactly. But honestly, what time travel drama does? Sometimes you just have to embrace the chaos and enjoy the mission.

🎭 Know Your K-drama Quiz
Can you name this K-drama from this riddle?
It all began beneath a shadowed sun,
Where I woke 1,075 years before my own time.
Eight princes smiled, but shadows grew,
As brother turned on brother too.
I tried to change what fate had planned,
With palace secrets close at hand.
A “wolf dog” prince stole more than time —
And left behind a love sublime.
